Responsibility
"There is a need for a green revolution in aviation and we are actively committed to this at both our airports. We are fully dedicated to turning our airports into pioneers of sustainability using a certain amount of bold creativity, even if we know that the journey there may be long and sometimes paved with obstacles.”

OUR UNDERSTANDING OF SUSTAINABILITY
We are committed to sustainability at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen Aktiengesellschaft (MFAG) and use the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations as our benchmark. As a result, we ensure that sustainable actions and economic activities are integrated within our business model and are permanently anchored there.

We are operating and developing the two airports at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden with the aim of making available highly efficient infrastructure for air traffic to and from Central Germany. The Central German airports are important local business factors and powerhouses for development in their regions. Our business activities involve developing the passenger and cargo air services in line with needs – as well as the spaces that are available at the airports. We are also tapping into new business fields and are attracting new customer groups and investors.
To achieve this, we are focusing our attention on our customers and developing partnerships. Because we are one of the largest infrastructure operators in Central Germany, all-embracing sustainability is at the forefront of our thinking as part of our ecological responsibility, social solidarity and economic performance in order to protect what is the basis for life for all of us. We are aiming to have green logistics and CO2 neutrality for airport operations by 2030. Sustainability with people and for the region is what dominates our thinking.
We are exercising our social role as the connecting point for people and goods by providing domestic and international connections and we are creating the foundations for the economic development of the region and along the entire value-added chain. We view sustainability as the long-term benchmark for our development.
We are well aware that sustainability can create conflicts between economically successful actions and simultaneously assuming responsibility for the environment and society. We therefore ask ourselves questions: how can we mobilise our investments to make them as efficient and sustainable as possible? How do we resolve generational conflicts between a huge wealth of experience and fresh knowledge? How do we best promote innovative approaches and technologies?
We have created transparency about our activities in our ESG Progress Report, which appeared in 2023, and we reveal how we have integrated sustainability within our business model and how we want to shape it in future. We are naturally aware that we have only just started our journey towards sustainability and sustainability will only be a success story if we all make a concerted effort. We view sustainable development as a continuous process.
Key figures
Environment (E)
We are determined to achieve a climate-neutral future for air traffic: not just for the infrastructure on the ground, but also by using sustainable aviation fuels. We accept these enormous challenges so that we can actively make our contribution to sustainable air traffic.
Social (S)
Social responsibility is what characterises our company – because we do not just view our airports as transport hubs, but also as powerhouses for development for the entire region. However, our goal does not simply involve being economically successful, but also having a positive effect on the whole community in the long term.
Corporate policy (G)
Good governance for us means taking into consideration ethical principles, integrity and sustainability in our corporate actions at all times. Current laws, the Public Corporate Governance Code of the State of Saxony and voluntary self-imposed obligations are therefore our benchmarks in this regard.
