The new Supervisory Board at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG (MFAG) held its first meeting on Friday, 27 August 2021. The five-year period in office of the previous board, which consisted of 15 members, ended today. Not all the positions have yet been filled by the shareholders. The state of Saxony-Anhalt will fill its two seats once the new state government has been formed. The Free State of Saxony will make another nomination too. The board is expected to be fully staffed by the spring of 2022.

Hartmut Vorjohann, the Saxon State Minister of Finances, was elected as the acting Chairperson of the Supervisory Board at MFAG in order to ensure that the board is able to operate. He was previously the Deputy Chairperson of the Supervisory Board.

Hartmut Vorjohann thanked the previous Supervisory Board on behalf of the shareholders. He particularly highlighted the involvement of the long-standing chairperson, Erich Staake, in the successful development of MFAG. “Erich Staake played a major role in helping to navigate the successful course at MFAG during his period in office from 2009 until 2021 and he was a valuable source of advice for us at any time, not least because of his many years of experience in the logistics sector. The shareholders are grateful for his dedicated service and the reliable support that fully matched the excellent development of the Central German region as a strong hub. We wish Mr Staake all the very best for the future.”

Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG commented, “MFAG owes a great deal to Erich Staake. He made a substantial contribution to ensuring that our corporate group is now in a position that enables us to look to the future with great confidence. I would personally like to thank Mr Staake for the trust and the support that I have experienced from him. This was not only available for the Management Board of MFAG, but also specifically for all the company’s employees at both airport sites at any time.”
