Test facilities at the airports

Passengers are able to have themselves tested by private service companies at Covid-19 test centres at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports, but have to pay for this. You can arrange appointments for antigen rapid and PCR tests directly with the providers online.

Information for passengers

In order to be able to start their flight in as relaxed a manner as possible, passengers should arrive at the airport at least 2.5 hours before departure and use the online check-in facilities. The pandemic makes additional formalities at check-in necessary, so passengers should plan for longer waiting times than normal.

No more than one item of hand luggage is allowed on board.

Returning to Germany

All those returning to Germany from abroad have had to have themselves tested since 30 March 2021. All persons wishing to enter Germany by plane must present a negative Covid-19 test to their airline before departure. They are not allowed to travel without the negative test result. Passengers are therefore requested to obtain information directly from their airline or their tour operator about how the essential Covid-19 tests are conducted before their return flight.

Low-cost parking right next to the airports

Passengers can park their car at prices starting from EUR 15 per week at the Central German airports. This is possible at the P4 car park at Leipzig/Halle Airport or the P4A car park at Dresden Airport if you use the online booking service.

New airport tours during the summer holidays

Dresden: AIRlebnis tour

The AIRlebnis tour provides plenty of interesting facts and excitement centred around modern aviation for 30 individual guests at Dresden Airport. The tour is included in the Dresden holiday pass for young children. Following brief instructions, all the guests make their way through the security check and board an apron bus. A guide explains the fascinating aircraft and handling equipment to the visitors. The high point involves a visit to the airport fire brigade: various emergency vehicles, including the “Panther” 8x8 with 1,268 hp, can be admired at close quarters. The tour is being offered every Tuesday and Friday at 10 a.m. from 26 July 2021 until 5 September 2021.

Dresden: Summer evening tour

No more than 30 people can explore the terminal building and pass through a security check during the summer evening tours. An apron bus then takes people to the area where aircraft are prepared for take-off. A visit to the airport fire brigade is naturally part of the programme; it will present its fire-fighting equipment and the Panther 8x8 with its 1,268 hp.

The visitor service ensures that there is no shortage of a holiday feeling during the two-hour trip. The tour starts at the central check-in area and takes the big and small participants through the terminal building and out on to the apron area. All those participating can then experience airport life at close quarters. The programme also includes a visit to the airport fire brigade, which will present its fire-fighting equipment. The tour is offered on Mondays and Fridays at 11 a.m. – and Wednesdays too if there is demand for it.
