Lufthansa flies to Frankfurt again from Leipzig/Halle
Lufthansa is planning to continually increase its services to its hub in Frankfurt ton14 flights a week during the course of this summer. The Leipzig/Halle – Frankfurt service had been suspended since 18 March 2020 because of the pandemic.
Services from Dresden
Lufthansa has already been providing a service on the Dresden – Frankfurt route for a year now – it was only interrupted for seven weeks as a result of the pandemic. The flights are available every day. Lufthansa plans to operate as many as three flights a day between Dresden and Frankfurt from July onwards.
Lufthansa flies to its hub in Munich from Wednesday to Sunday and on Monday. The route will have a daily service from August onwards.
Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, says, “We’re delighted that Lufthansa is operating from both airports again. This is an optimistic signal and an important step in connecting the Central German region with the airline’s global network of routes in line with needs.”

2021 summer timetable
Airlines and tour operators are continually adapting their services in line with the way that the pandemic develops. Last-minute changes to the timetable are therefore possible.

Test facilities at the airports
Passengers are able to be tested at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports at the Covid-19 test centres operated by private companies, but must pay for this. The dates for antigen rapid or PCR tests can be directly arranged with the provider online. You will find more information at: www.mdf-ag.com/reisehinweise/
Protecting people’s health in the top priority
The Central German airports already introduced extensive precautions to protect the health of passengers, visitors, partners and employees after the first lockdown last year.
People must wear a medical face mask inside the terminals. There are vending machines in front of the buildings where it is possible to purchase FFP2 masks.
Protective plastic screens have been installed at the check-in desks and at the boarding card control points. Monitors, signs and announcements remind passengers and visitors to comply with the behaviour and hygiene regulations. Markings have also been attached to the floor to remind people of the social distancing rules during check-in and security checks, for example. The seats in the terminals also have distance markers. Passengers must also wear a face mask during flights. They should obtain information about the current regulations from their airline or tour operator in advance. The same is true of the entry requirements in the destination country and the hygiene rules that apply there.
Information for passengers
In order to be able to start their flight in as relaxed a manner as possible, passengers should arrive at the airport at least 2.5 hours before departure and use the online check-in facilities. The pandemic makes additional formalities necessary during check-in, so that longer waiting times than normal must be expected.
Passengers may only take one item of hand luggage on board.
Returning to Germany
All those returning to Germany from abroad have had to submit to a test since 30 March 2021. All persons wishing to fly to Germany must present a negative Covid-19 test to their airline before departure. They are not allowed to travel without the negative test result. Passengers are therefore requested to obtain information directly from their airline or their tour operator about how the essential Covid-19 tests are conducted before their return flight.
Low-cost parking directly at the airports
Passengers can park their car at the Central German airports at prices starting from EUR 15 per week. This is possible at the P4 car park (Leipzig/Halle) or the P4A car park (Dresden) if the booking is made online. You will find more information at: www.mdf-ag.com
