Leipzig/Halle Airport: the WEERTS GROUP constructs a logistics park

The Belgian WEERTS GROUP (WG) believes that there is enormous potential for developing logistics facilities in the region around Leip-zig/Halle Airport. Its subsidiary, WEERTS Logistics Parks (WLP), has been constructing a new logistics park with warehouse space measur-ing approx. 37,500 square metres on the south side of Leipzig/Halle Airport since June 2024. Once the area has been completed, the pro-ject will create about 100 new jobs.

Götz Ahmelmann (the CEO of MFAG), Ingo Ludwig (the CFO of MFAG) and Yves Weerts (the CEO and owner of WG) signed a leasehold agreement between MFAG and WLP in May 2023. The agreement created the legal basis for the logistics park, which is located very close to other logistics companies.

The new logistics park consists of two warehouse areas, which are separated by Hans-Wittwer-Strasse. Warehouse area A is set to be completed by the end of April 2025 and the construction work for warehouse area B will probably be finished by the end of 2025. Marketing work for the facility, which will mainly focus on companies associated with air freight, has already started. The entire warehouse complex will consist of five units, which will provide total space measuring approx. 37,500 square metres, and three office buildings placed in front of the units will offer about 2,500 square metres of usable space. The height available in the warehouses will be 12.50 metres. Each unit will have 10 to 12 loading bridges as well as access at ground level. The area outside the logistics park will also provide parking spaces for 143 cars, 25 lorries and plenty of bicycles.

Sustainable building designs are very important for the WEERTS GROUP and WEERTS Energy (solar panel systems/storage batteries) is an important division within the corporate group. All the office buildings at the new logistics park at Leipzig/Halle Airport will have a green roof and the warehouse roofs will be equipped with a solar panel system. Electric mobility is also being factored into the project with twelve charging stations for cars and numerous charging points for electric bicycles.
