Eurowings launches new routes at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports

The airline Eurowings is starting new air services at the Central German airports. Following the compulsory break induced by the coronavirus crisis, the airline is operating flights from Leipzig/Halle Airport to Düsseldorf as many as six times a week from 2 August.

Eurowings planes will take off from Dresden Airport heading for Stuttgart up to five times a week from 3 August onwards. The airline has also announced that it plans to fly to Cologne/Bonn from Dresden again from September.

Tickets can be booked at eurowings.com.

The first flight from Leipzig/Halle to Düsseldorf will take off this Sunday. This means that the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia will appear on the departures board again for the first time since the end of March. Eurowings will operate the service every day except Saturday and use Airbus A319 and A320 planes on this route.

Eurowings already connects Leipzig/Halle with Palma de Mallorca and Varna.

A Eurowings plane will take off from Dresden heading for Stuttgart for the first time next Monday. As a result, the two state capitals will be connected by air services again following a five-month break. Eurowings will operate the flights daily from Monday to Friday and use Airbus A319 or A320 planes on this service.

Eurowings already connects Dresden with Düsseldorf and Palma de Mallorca – and plans to fly to Cologne/Bonn from September onwards.

Within Germany, Lufthansa has also been flying to Frankfurt and Munich since the middle of June.

Coronavirus test centres at both airports

The state of Saxony will enable people to make use of voluntary and free tests for the coronavirus at the two Central German airports (Leipzig/Halle and Dresden) at corona test centres, probably from Saturday 1 August onwards.

The test centres will be located in the public area at both airports – on the upper floor of the arrivals/departures terminal at Leipzig/Halle Airport and on the arrivals level of the passenger building at Dresden Airport. There will be signs indicating the location of the test centres at both airports.

The Free State of Saxony is cooperating with the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Saxony (KVS) in setting up the corona test centres at the Central German airports.

Health protection and travel advice

The Central German Airports have put extensive precautions in place to protect the health of passengers, visitors, partners and employees. The package of measures is based on the requirements of the responsible authorities and follows the recommendations of the German Airports Association (ADV).

The precautions include the installation of perspex screens at check-in counters and boarding pass checkpoints and the provision of disinfectant dispensers throughout the terminals. Passengers are reminded of the distancing and hygiene rules on monitors and signs and in PA announcements. Markings have been installed on floors, for example at security control, to help people keep to the social distancing rules. Seats have also been marked with social distancing stickers.

The wearing of face coverings is compulsory inside all terminals. Most airlines already require passengers to wear face coverings on board. Passengers should check the applicable requirements with their airline before travelling.
